Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB), together with eight local partners, organized an event in Belgrade, Serbia, on 8 June 2026, to showcase Azerbaijan as a travel destination for Serbian visitors.
The opening event is attended by Mr. Fuad Naghiyev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Kamil Khasiyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Nikola Mijajlović, State Secretary of Ministry of Tourism and Youth of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of ATB, The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) representatives, as well as members of the Serbian and Azerbaijani tourism industry and media.
Fuad Naghiyev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, emphasized that relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia are rooted in strong friendship and strategic partnership formed under the leadership of the heads of state of both countries. He noted that this solid foundation of the cooperation creates wide-ranging opportunities for the further development of ties in the field of tourism. Chairman Naghiyev also highlighted that the mutual visa-free regime and joint initiatives implemented in recent years have made a significant contribution to expanding tourism exchange between the two countries and advancing cooperation in new directions.
The event continued with a B2B workshop, bringing together eight tourism industry representatives from Azerbaijan and approximately 30 Serbian travel trade representatives, including Air Serbia, to promote Azerbaijan’s tourism offerings and present it as a year-round destination. The workshop was followed by a media briefing attended by 16 representatives from Serbian media outlets, providing an opportunity to highlight Azerbaijan's tourism potential and strengthen visibility in the Serbian market. The program concluded with a gala dinner, offering further opportunities for networking among participants.
“The direct air route between Belgrade and Baku is not merely a new transport connection, it is a bridge between our people, cultures, and markets. Its establishment opens a new chapter in tourism, business, and cultural cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan, creating new opportunities for collaboration between our two countries,” said Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of the ATB.
The new route operated by Air Serbia represents an important step in enhancing accessibility between Azerbaijan and Serbia. Since its launch, strong passenger demand has been recorded, reflected in an average seat occupancy rate of 87%.
To accommodate travellers on both ends, flights between Belgrade and Baku operate twice a week, departing from Belgrade on Wednesdays and Sundays and from Baku on Thursdays and Sundays. The average flight time is three and a half hours.
The establishment of this route is further supported by the visa-free travel regime between Azerbaijan and Serbia, facilitating easier travel opportunities for citizens of both countries.
