Azerbaijan’s ornithological tourism opportunities were presented at the Global Bird Fair, an international birdwatching tourism exhibition held from July 11 to 14 in Rutland, United Kingdom.
During the event, Azerbaijan highlighted its commitment to nature conservation and sustainable tourism practices. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about the bird species, country's protected areas, national parks, and conservation efforts that preserve the delicate balance of its ecosystems. Representatives from Azerbaijan Tourism Board were present at the event, showcasing the country's birdwatching hotspots, natural resources and cultural heritage, and fostering partnerships with international organizations.
The State Tourism Agency and Azerbaijan Tourism Board, in close cooperation with international experts and the Azerbaijan Ornithological Society, have implemented various initiatives to promote ornithological tourism as a key segment of ecotourism. These efforts include the development of specialized brochures and the organization of training sessions for nature tourism guides and industry representatives.
Azerbaijan's strategic location at the crossroads of migration routes makes it an ideal destination for birdwatchers. With around 400 recorded bird species and short distances between key sites, the country offers both convenience and diversity. Birdwatching is growing rapidly in response to the global rise in ecotourism, highlighting the importance of local conservation and community involvement. Unique sites like Gizil Aghaj National Park, Beshbarmag with its massive bird migrations, and Nakhchivan’s exclusive species offer unforgettable experiences and showcase Azerbaijan’s rich natural heritage.
The Global Bird Fair is an annual international event promoting birdwatching tourism, bringing together representatives from over 62 countries and 287 companies to foster global awareness and collaboration in the field.
